LVMH MÉTIERS D’ART PRESENTS ITS 9TH RÉSIDENCE ARTISTIQUE "SCARS OF LIGHT" BY SHU YONEZAWAAN ARTISTIC DIALOGUE BETWEEN JAPAN AND PARIS

LVMH Métiers d'Art is proud to present the Parisian exhibition of "Scars of Light," the latest body of work by Japanese anime and multimedia artist Shu Yonezawa. This exhibition marks the culmination of the 9th Artistic Residency – the first edition of the program to be held in Japan and directed by Miho Saito – celebrating, as always, the fusion of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary artistic innovation. After an immersive six-month residency at KUROKI, the renowned denim master from Ibara city, Okayama, Shu Yonezawa unveils a collection of 33 artworks that reimagines denim as a living universe. Drawing deeply from the artisanal processes of indigo dyeing, intricate weaving, and the rhythms of the factory, as well as the lush natural environment of Ibara and the surrounding Seto Inland Sea, Shu's work transcends the material to explore memory, technology, and the poetic resonance of craftsmanship.Jean Baptiste Voisin, LVMH Strategy Director and Founder of LVMH Métiers d'Art, stated: "Scars of Light testifies to the power of dialogue between cultures, between past and future, between art and craftsmanship. Such projects are integral to the mission of LVMH Métiers d'Art: they nurture creativity, preserve heritage, and give the deepest meaning to our industry."Reflecting on her experience, Shu Yonezawa shared: "Over the past six months, I have had countless opportunities to see things for the first time and to look at them from different perspectives. Exploring new landscapes, immersing myself in the rhythms of the KUROKI factory, and listening to hidden voices has been both refreshing and inspiring. My gratitude goes to LVMH Métiers d'Art and all the members of Kuroki who supported me throughout this residency – it has enriched my soul as much as my artistic vision."By promoting its artistic residencies, Métiers d'Art creates opportunities for artists and artisans to collaborate, experiment, and reinvent traditional savoir-faire in new and unexpected ways. These initiatives foster a dynamic dialogue between generations and geographies, ensuring that the legacy of craftsmanship continues to evolve and inspire. This Parisian exhibition is organized by Oorvi Sharma, curator, architect, and academic, in collaboration with LVMH Métiers d'Art. Drawing on her material expertise and a global career dedicated to highlighting culture and craftsmanship, Oorvi's curatorial direction offers an intimate perspective on Shu's practice.CreditsCurator: Oorvi SharmaDesign and Graphics: Tushar VermaDenim Columns: Sakura Momma
